A new man in the White House? God forbid

The run-up to the US presidential election in November has reached fever-pitch. The election to be the president of the world’s only super power pits Republican Party nominee Donald Trump against Democratic Party nominee Hilary Clinton.

The tussle is being played out not only in full view of the American people, but on the world stage, before the young and the old and that’s part of the problem. Most parents would have to ban their young children from following the debates.

The race to the White House usually brought out the best in candidates aspiring to that high office. Unfortunately the present race to the White House has set a new low in vulgarity.
The recently revealed taped conversations of candidate Donald Trump seems to have brought out the worst in the man. Rather than apologising for his near unforgivable comments objectionalising women and their purported use for his own sexual gratification, during the second presidential debate Mr. Trump attempted to cover up several of his deviant actions in his past by harping on  President Bill Clinton’s sexual misdeeds... no apologies.
Mr. Trump also does not treat facts as being sacred. Throughout his campaign, he has dealt in blatant untruths -- one of them being that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated after the al-Qaeda attack of September 11-- when confronted with contrary evidence, he had simply repeated his original comments.

Perhaps like Goebbels he believes that if a lie is repeated often enough it will be believed. Sadly Mr. Trump appears to believe in his own lies.
He has also threatened those who criticize him that they will be made to suffer when he is president and has vowed the use of torture on suspected terrorists. He has challenged and criticized a judge who’s ruled against him, and shown his contempt for the independence of the judiciary by insisting on the judge being disqualified because of his Mexican background.
It is frightening to think which of these traits will be in the forefront should he ever become president of the US.

When prodded by the Democratic nominee during the second presidential election debate, ‘the Donald’ reacted by threatening to have her jailed once he was president!
A leaf out of the reclusive North Korean President’s book or perhaps Philippines President Durate famed for killing more than 1,000 people suspected of being drug users and/or peddlers and the incarceration of around three thousand suspects within a space of three months.

Unforgivable and wrong though these actions of Durate are, the Philippine President is attempting to tackle a massive drugs-related problem facing his country, whereas presidential candidate Donald Trump is threatening his chief political opponent.

Donald Trump has never held political office. Only one American president – more than sixty years ago -- Dwight D. Eisenhower became president without ever having held political office and Trump, is no Eisenhower.
Eisenhower led the allied campaign to liberate Europe from the Nazis. It required strategic and political skills of a high order, and Eisenhower — was diligent, humble and thoughtful. Trump is loud and boastful. He has never supplied solutions to the problems he himself has raised.

What he does offer are a series of prejudices and gut feelings, most of them wrong.
‘Coming events the saying goes, casts its shadows’ and the shadow of a Trump presidency is casting a very big shadow. It in fact poses a danger to both the US and the world.
A danger to the US, because Trump’s call to promote torture, jailing of political opponents and contempt for the judiciary show his contempt for the Constitution of the US. And it is this constitution which gives the US its democratic framework.

A Trump presidency also poses a danger to the world… imagine a man, who treats those whom he disagrees with contempt, who goes about jailing his political opponents, challenging the verdicts of the justices, and this man having in his hand on the nuclear trigger
A new man in the White House… dear God no.
