Recording the most expensive car imported to Sri Lanka, a leading businessman has imported a Rolls Royce super luxury car, worth over Rs. 158 million, customs sources said.
They said a private company in Sangharaja Mawatha, Colombo had imported the car - Rolls Royce Wraith- and removed it yesterday after paying Rs. 93 million as duty to the Sri Lanka Customs.
The 2.4 tonne super luxury car has two-door and is made by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars of Goodwood, England.

I'm pretty sure he's providing jobs for others. Otherwise he wouldn't make that much of money.
Oliver N.Liyanage Tuesday, 27 September 2016 12:42 PM
For a small country of our size, there should be better control of our foreign earnings brought by small familieswho cant find their basic needs .IRD should chech the taxfile of this importer immediately.
Hitapangmachan Tuesday, 27 September 2016 12:45 PM

This price is wrong.....current price of a Rolls Royce Wraith 2016 is 304350 Pounds. Google it and Convert it to rupees and see.
jinadasaProfessor Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:04 AM
Most Sri Lankans are Buddhists, still they seems to be very jealous when some one buys a car or a home, it's his hard earned money, Good luck
Umar Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:09 AM
We should be happy for the guy and not speculate garbage. He or she paid the taxes and its not up to us to shoot in the dark and say things like its looted money its illegal etc. The problem with Sri Lankans is we cannot see someone else prosper and do well we always HAVE to say something negative. As long as we will be in that mindset the country will not move out of being stuck in a rut. Just stop trolling the guy and commenting for the sake of it. Keep your hate and jealousy to yourself. if you cant afford a Rolls Royce stop trolling and start working towards it via DM iOS App

Owning something Perceived to be bigger and More Expensive than the Next Man's is the bane of Sri Lanka!
Don Wednesday, 28 September 2016 05:42 AM
Its not jealousy. Its not that he paid the duty. What about income taxes In Europe tax rates are very high and look at their standard of living. Here when the top skip paying taxes the middle class end up paying for them. When the middle class dwindles who is going to buy goods and services the top is selling. So more tax revenue goes down. In the US when you make a deposit over 10000 it automatically gets reported to the IRS. Such systems are needed here to make everyone play fair. Thats a democracy. via DM Android App
ANTON Wednesday, 28 September 2016 09:01 AM
WE ARE NOT INTERESTED ABOUT THE MAN WHO PURCHASED THE CAR, WE WANT TO KNOW THE OWNER.

Bloody brilliant. Hope Sri Lanka will be prosperous and more Sri Lankans are able to afford this kind of luxury. All the nay Sayers will definitely not back away if someone offered them a Roller or equivalent in cash.. :)Happy days. !!
JD Wednesday, 28 September 2016 10:59 AM
do you not think this has raised enough alarm bells for the authorities not to follow up ???
Rohan Thursday, 29 September 2016 06:24 AM
I think most are missing the point here by looking at comments. As a country we pay huge sums of our rupees to overseas countries to import goods which makes our rupee depreciates and we become poorer as a country.
ralahamy Thursday, 29 September 2016 05:28 PM
This is also a case of money laundering. It is sad that most people in this forum did not understand this.
TypSL Sunday, 02 October 2016 09:03 PM
Typical SL mentality. Think Positive. If he is doing good business, this is not a big money for him.

Nihal Amarasekera Tuesday, 27 September 2016 05:19 AM

Don Tuesday, 27 September 2016 05:40 AM
This guy could have started a business providing more jobs to our youth. The inland revenue should investigate for possible tax evasion and the police narcotics bureau go in right after. via DM Android App

So you mean to say each and every businessmen is dealing drugs ?? you being not able to earn money like that is not his problem. If he has the money, if he pays the taxes, and if he has bought the car lawfully what is the problem with you ? are you jealous ?lol
Thanos Tuesday, 27 September 2016 09:10 AM
If it is for a businessman, then I have no issue. But if it is just a proxy for a politician, then.........good for you for voting in people like that.
Dinesh Tuesday, 27 September 2016 09:14 AM

Must be the money robbed from central bank or a political hand in if not this is not possible
German Jacob Tuesday, 27 September 2016 11:09 AM
This car would have been imported by Namal not the businessman.
J Palitha Tuesday, 27 September 2016 11:10 AM
Only Rajapakshe family can afford to buy such luxury cars with their looted money.
Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 27 September 2016 11:11 AM
Namal would have imported this car and sold to the businessman owing to his problems.
lankaman Tuesday, 27 September 2016 11:13 AM
What a loser you are. If the businessman has earned his money legally and paid his due taxes, what is your problem if he goes around in a Rolls Royce? Stop being jealous of successful people and try to do something useful for at least yourself if not the caountry
RamsesII Tuesday, 27 September 2016 11:20 AM
What is the problem with most people? Why cant anyone buy a car if they please. If he can openly get it down pay a huge amount for tax and clear it with a registered company how in God's earth can it be illegal?
