A tense situation prevailed at an event organised by the Purawesi Balaya and the National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) being held at the Public Library in Colombo, when several attendees had questioned, why the panel was not paying respects to the late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, the former head of the NMSJ.

The attendees had criticised the panel for not observing silence to pay respects to the demised prelate and not mentioning him prior to the beginning of the event.

The members of the panel had refuted the claims that they had forgotten the monk but had observed silence afterwards. The theme of the event is ‘Is this the Good Governance promised on January 8?’  (Piyumi Fonseka)

We have more in common than that which divides us - the words of Jo Cox MP in the UK. Maybe us Sri Lankans should start thinking like the Britishers

These "attendees" who disrupted the event were probably sent by the crooks in the former govt.

Ram I do not agree with you , when this gov came into power they never knew how much debt, MR has done it strtegically taken loans to Ports , SriLankan and CEB which are not in the books. at that time they were playing only the interest , but after this gov came into power the had to pay the capital as well all loans have taken on high interest and commercial rates, look@ rajagiriya flyover compare the interest rates and the payback period. MR is to be blamed for this economic situ

    Bawa Tuesday, 21 June 2016 06:04 PM

All of MR's development projects are failures except for the southern highway and airport highway. Both were planned by the previous Ranil wickremesinghe govt.

    Yahapalanaya happening ekasiya gaanata

    Ram Tuesday, 21 June 2016 04:20 PM

MR was the one behind war victory, and initiated massive developments. Almost 2 years with yahapalanaya now, What have they done except accusing MR? What about CB fraud which we lost billions. No significant work has started, economy is going down day by day. If this is coz of MRs loans how the hell they increased Rs 10000 to public servants? How are they buy vehicles worth billlions? How many are there in the cabinet? Most people have already realized that they made a wrong decision on jan8th. Its a matter of time before people start going back to MR.

We don't want white vans, grease yakkas, Journalist being murdered, high scale corruption and Racial riots.

    Aruna Tuesday, 21 June 2016 04:53 PM

Even MR reappointed tomorrow, it won't be that easy to reinstate SL to where it stopped by Jan 08, 2015 from precipice in the economy now SL are rested in.

    Sam Tuesday, 21 June 2016 04:52 PM

Yes MR did a lot for the country. But the problem was his reluctance or refusal to reach minorities to bring a long lasting solution to the ethnic problem. Instead he allowed certain groups to spread ethnic and religious disharmony. So if he is to comeback it's going to be difficult only with sinhala bhudhist vote. Because it is mainly divided between UNP and SLFP. So he must find a way to win the heats of minorities too.

    Absolute Tuesday, 21 June 2016 04:51 PM

Absolutely correct. This government failed to fulfilled aspirations of the people, except boasting about Jahapalanaya. People definitely fed-up of, not only this government, but these so called Purawasi Balaya and NMSJ too.
