The OIC of the Special Crimes Investigation unit of the Mount Lavinia Police has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a woman.
Bribery Commission Director (Investigations) SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said, the woman who was a resident of Kalubowila had lodged a complaint with the Mount Lavinia police against a man over a dispute relating to money.
The OIC, an Inspector of Police (IP) had told the woman that he would arrest the respondent and settle the case if she agreed to pay Rs. 100,000.
The woman had paid Rs. 5,000 earlier and the OIC was arrested while accepting Rs. 20,000 in the Dehiwala area.
SSP Chandrasiri said the suspect would be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate today (21). (Darshana Sanjeewa)

Well done. Mt.Lavinia is a highly vulnerable area for crimes, prostitution and drugs. Dirty police officers to be blamed.
