PM agrees to suspend re-appointment of Mahendran as CB governor

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had agreed not to re-appoint Arjuna Mahendran as the Governor of the Central Bank until the investigation launched by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) against him concluded.

The Convener of Puravasi Balaya, Saman Ratnapriya said the decision was made during the meeting held yesterday between the Prime Minister and the Puravasi Balaya movement at Temple Trees.

Mr. Ratnapriya said that following a two-hour long discussion, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had agreed with their proposal not to re-appoint Mahendran as CB Governor pending the conclusion of investigations. (Piyumi Fonseka)

Arjun Mahendran has not broken any laws. However he has not acted according to the spirit of the law, which is expected. So unless the laws are changed this will happen again.

This again shows the government's incapability of handling administrative matters. This was the day light robbery, and must not intervened by third party like Puravasi Balaya to make a decision on the matter. RW should have done this long time before.

Just do not appoint this controversial imported man, whether COPE finds him guilty or not is irrelevant. It is up to the President to make the final decision. There are thousands of Sri Lankans qualified for the job.

He should not be appointed cos he is a controversial figure alias Bond Mahendra, hence for the integrity of SL and impartiality of the central bank of Sri Lanka a local or international economist should be appointed as the Central Bank Governor not an Investment banker or Accountant.
