Navy wants action against EP CM Nazeer

The navy today handed a report to the Defence Ministry requesting action be taken against Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamed for allegedly rebuking a naval officer at an event at the Sampur Maha Vidyalaya on Friday.

A video of the CM rebuking a naval officer, who was the compere at an event at the Sampur Maha Vidyalaya, went viral recently. Eastern Province Governor Austin Fernando and US Ambassador Atul Keshap also attended the event as Chief Guests.

Mr. Ahamed lost his cool when he had mistakenly assumed that the navy personnel was requesting him to move off the stage, when he had in fact only requested the media personnel to make room for students to come up on stage.

"Get out from here idiot. If you don’t know what protocol is, just get out. Who the hell are you to stop me? Even you, the Governor, don’t know what the protocol is. I respect the Ambassador much more. You should know Governor, you should know the protocol," he was heard saying.

Navy Commander Ravindra Wijegunaratne yesterday said that he handed over a report on the incident to the Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi.

“We have handed over a report recommending the measures that need to be taken to the Defence Secretary yesterday. We are quite happy that the naval personnel did not act in a manner that made the situation worse,” he said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

now war is over and officers are a redundant. better let the civilians to do the administration and officers to be "officer and gentleman" in side camps. they are not to get intimidated by these idiots. if nave officer has done a mistake there is a way to handle it. CM can summon him through proper channels and say what ever he had to say. without humiliating in public. this is a show of power and reminder to governor as well. just a caution...... CM take care when you do like this again...all will not behave like this gentle man......

Though the outburst of the CM should be condemned by all, the Navy cannot demand action against any political office holder as long as he or she has not broken any law, and that too will be a matter for the police. Navy cannot go beyond submitting a report on the incident, as requested by the ministry secretary. Going beyond that would amount to stepping into democratic governance in which the Navy, like other organs of the govt., has no role to play.

May be sometime the CM couldn't understand what the the NV officer said and it would have been politely told the Guest in the way he could understand. Also,if the Governor travels in a helicopter,he would have made some room for the C/M to come in the helicopter as both are important people. May be these are problems arisen due to language problem. So it is better to forget this and worktogether.

Way to go NAVY. Go through proper channels and get him to clear his stupidity. The President and The Prime Minister please take appropriate actions without any preferences. For common masses EP chief minister not even worth the cook in the Sampur Navy base. In that case all politicians rather. these idiots really cause problems in the country. Stupid CM should apologize in public to that respected Naval officer and to the Navy. We salute our tri forces. we saw how did they offer their services without any differences during the floods and landslides.
