Kusal Janith Perera has said that he has not been banned yet and the official hearing into the doping charges against him is to be held in May.

Media reports quoting Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera this evening said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a four year ban on Kusal Janith for allegedly using banned substance.

After these reports, former Captain Mahela Jayawardane tweeted; “Spoke to Kusal. He is suspended and has an official hearing in May. Then ICC will decide on his future. He is not banned yet according to Kusal.”

According to the ICC, Kusal has not been banned but only suspended until the inquiry is over.

he has obviously lied at some stage, to the ICC. That is why he has been asked to take a Polygraphy test.

Some people here do doping to be good at games. That doesn't mean it is good and fair to be allowed to play. There is no point pointing fingers at Indian Cricket Board or anyone for that matter. He would have been left aside if hasn't used any drugs in the first place.

You are a good player and we miss you, but you are a liar and a bluffer like Malinga.

If he was not banned why was he not allowed to play Mahela I am confused

    Bala Tuesday, 12 April 2016 10:13 AM

Suspension is not allowed to play - like compulsory leave for an employee.

What I cannot understand is will any cricketer take a banned steroids being knowing the Protocol of the ICC ? They are very well aware that they are subject to a test before matches. As Mr.Ravi mentioned some body want only Kusal out of the world T20 tournament as he is a explosive batsman like Sanath and he is a match winner. We know the country behind this conspiracy and glad they were kicked out at the semifinals.

Gemiya is correct. KJP is suspended and most likely will be banned. He is found guilty but the inquiry is to decide the severity of the ban. via DM Android App

Minister might not be aware of the difference between suspended and banned! In general our politicos never being subjected suspend nor banned during their career! So they are not that familiar with these words , I think.

In Sri Lanka we are good at passing the buck, even when there is solid proof. Time to grow up and be a responsible and ethical nation.

Remember ICC is virtually controlled by Indians and will do anything to keep him out.
