Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had failed to find solutions to the problems the country was facing, and that was why the former Government called for a Presidential Election two years before the predecessor’s term ended, President Maithripala Sirirsena said yesterday.
“The former President called for elections two years in advance because they were unable to deliver solutions to the problems the country was facing. People voted me in with the hope that I would deliver what I promised,” he said in an interview last night.
He said Sri Lanka, which had been one of the most isolated nations internationally in the past, was now transformed into a country accepted worldwide with many powerful friends.
Meanwhile, the President said the Unity Government ushered an alternative to the country torn apart by party divisions, since Independence.

MR held election much earlier coz he was he was much confident of what he had done to the country, ending war on the way to the miracle of Asia. However people were deceived by your Yahapalana slogan and now you are afraid of holding elections.

All you're capable is harping about MR for over a year what a failure

You are mistaken MS. MR called for elections two years I. advance because he wanted to take paths in Nov 2016 and continued for another six more years. He wanted Namal to reach 35 years so he would it call it a day in 2022 and get Namal nominated for the 2022 presidential elections. Power greedy family. Thank God we got rid of the Rajapaksha clan. via DM Android App

A BABY WILL TAKE TIME TO WALK, THEN RUN. LIKEWISE YOU CANNOT EXPECT A NEWLY ELECTED GOVT AFTER A LAPSE OF 10 YEARS TO CHANGE THINGS OVERNIGHT LIKE MAGIC. THERE ARE SEVERAL MATTERS TO REDO BEFORE GOING AHEAD WITH THEIR PLAN THAT RW HAS SPELLED OUT IN PARLIAMENT. YOU NEED TIME TO DELVIER

MR CALLED FOR EARLY ELECTIONS SO THAT IF HE HAD WON HE COULD HAVE GONE ON FOR TWO ADDITIONAL YEARS. THE CONSTITUTION SHOULD BE AMENDED TO STATE THAT PRESIDENT ELECT SHOULD TAKE OFFICE WITHING THREE MONTHS OF HIM/HER BEING ELECTED TO OFFICE. NOW 5 YEAR TERM STARTS FROM DATE OF TAKING OATHS EVEN AFTER SEVERAL YEARS

Yes, it is true that,"People voted you in, with the hope that you would deliver what you promised". However, you have failed to deliver miserably. People are not worried about getting isolated internationally.Although, you think that the Unity Government ushered an alternative to the country torn apart by party divisions, it created Intra -Party(SLFP) divisions to the hilt.

People are totally fed up hearing the President talking about MR's mistakes. People knew all these. That is why he was sent home. Just stop talking nonsense and start doing something worthwhile for the country.
Sad Day Monday, 28 March 2016 12:33 PM
You've wasted one year and three months by just talking only, we the masses continue to stagger from one disaster to another
