Protest in Kandy leads to tense situation

A tense situation prevailed in Kandy when one group of people demanded that the Kandy-Mahiyangana Road opposite the Dalada Maligawa be opened while another group demanded that this stretch of road be kept closed.

The protest had led to traffic congestion in the area.

Police dispersed the protestors and no injuries were reported.

This road had been kept closed since the terrorist attack on the Dalada Maligawa.(Nadeeka Daya Bandara)

All roads belonging to the public should be returned back to the public and kept open. Their is no threat at present to the Dalada Maligawa and the road is kept closed for the convenience of the temple and not the public.

This has to be opened. Only the area people know the difficulties they undergo after the close down of this road.

Behalf of Tennekumbura people....Please re open the dalada maligawa road as we are struggling to reach kandy via lakeside and wasting 30 to 45minits during rush time.
