The Chairman of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in Malabe Dr. Neville Fernando yesterday said not only Minister Senaratne’s daughter-in-law, but also the daughters and daughters-in-law of other ministers in the current government are also studying at the SAITM.

Even though there is heavy criticism of the educational qualifications of those who study at the SAITM, Dr. Fernando said that they had students with better grades -- ‘A’ levels with 3 ‘A’ s who were  unable to enter state universities because of the district quota system.

He said that state university students must give up their superiority complex, because education is a fundamental right for all students, whether state or non-state. (PiyumiFonseka)

Why does the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) only focus medical degree and faculty of medicine? SAITM has already ignored other faculties. It does not offer any other degree which is approved by UGC and only MBBS is approved by UGC. If the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) want to improve higher education oppertunities in Sri Lanka, it would start other degrees such as management, science and engineering with UGC approval.

Well said Doctor! students passing out from SAITM are also the ones who have the grades more better than the Govt. medical college students. So why this issue? Doctor Fernando keep up the good service in building our future with more professionals. It is the high time,we let this handful of morons dictate about running private institutions. some of the students in state medical faculties are very lucky to be there. they have got into the faculty using under privileged district tag however most of them went to private tuition. so they cannot criticise students with least qualifications in SAITM.

Some government doctors who are engaged in private practice charges Rs,1500.00 to 2000,00 per patient..This exorbitant charges will come down if we have more doctors. Therefore open more private medical universities.

DEFINITELY SAITM WILL MAKE VERY GOOD DOCTORS , NOT PARROTS. BECAUSE THE STUDENTS ARE AWARE OF THE VALUE OF MONEY. WE ARE WITH YOU.

My dear Doctor,It is not the superiority complex that the state universities have but an inferiority complex that brings insecurity. That is why they are behaving like this.
