Digital Tourist Information Kiosks (TIK), useful information centres about Sri Lanka and on the location in accurate and timely manner around the clock, will be the latest addition to the fast changing Sri Lanka's tourism industry.

Ministry of Tourism in association with Intelo Networks (Pvt) Ltd. will introduce digital Tourist Information Kiosks (TIK), as a one more step towards e-enabling the tourism industry as a whole. It is a nationally important project which will raise the income of the country per tourist arrived.

The official launch of TIK was held at the SLT auditorium on Monday with the participating of Minister of Tourism and other officials of Sri Lanka Tourism.

TIK is a touch screen based information provider. With touch of few buttons displayed in the touch screen of the Kiosk a tourist can get all the information he wants in regard to almost any tourism related questions. No computer literacy is required to do it.

Digital Tourist Information Kiosks supply the information to tourists accurately, timely, in a language the tourist prefer and in a very cost effective manner.

In the 'Sri Lanka General' section information will be available on flight schedules, train time tables, currency exchange rates, international time zones, current weather and forecasts, emergency numbers, contact info of foreign mission and airlines etc. In difference to other media, the TIK will display the info in real time. For an example it will show not only the published flight schedule but also the current flight schedule what is on display at the airport.

In the touch screen interface information are sorted under 11 main categories: -Sri Lanka in general, beauty and wellness, culture, entertainment, accommodation, events, dining, sports, travel, leisureand shopping.

The TIKS will be placed in locations with high tourist footfalls such as airports, Tourist Information Centres, hotels, commercial centers, shopping malls and exhibition and Convention Centres.
