The Sri Lanka Wushu Federation (SLWF) has formed a 15-member elite national pool in preparation for international wushu tournaments to be held in 2021 and 2022.

Residential elite national pool training has begun in Ratnapura following strict health guidelines in preparation for the 2021 Asian Wushu Championship (Delhi), 2021 World Wushu Championship (USA) and 2022 Asian Games (China), according to SLWF President Manel Dharmakeerthi.

The pool has been chosen considering the performances of athletes at the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal. It comprises 10 players in the Sanda category and five each in the Taulu category.

Apart from the elite pool, a 47-member national pool is undergoing training, the SLWF President said.
The coaches are Ruchira Bodhinayake for Taulu and Kapila Sabapathi for Sanda. In addition there are two assistant coaches.

The main target of the federation is to win medals at the 2021 Asian Wushu Championship to be held in Delhi or any other city and at the 2022 Asian Games.

Sri Lanka won 13 medals at the Kathmandu Games. It included two gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
