Tennis hopefuls continue winning streak

Sri Lanka junior tennis players continued their winning streak in the ongoing Junior Davis Cup Asia Oceania Oceania Pre-Qualifying tennis tournament by chalking up their second successive win defeating Saudi Arabia 3-0 at the SLTA tennis courts at Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Mayooran Kubherane and Ashlin de Silva recorded wins in the singles events with Mayooran pulling off an easy two sets to nil win over Mahdi Al Ibrahim but Ashlin underwent some anxious moments before prevailing by two sets to one against Ahamd Bahaa Sarouji.

In the doubles event Mayorran and Ashlin won the first set but the match was called off that made Sri Lanka winners.

Sri Lanka have now qualified to the quarter finals which is scheduled to be played tomorrow with the opponent yet to be finalized.

Singles: Ashlin de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Mahdi Al Ibrahim (Saudi Arabia) 2-0 (6/2, 7/5). Mayooran Kubherane (Sri Lanka) beat Ahamd Bahaa Sarouji (Saudi Arabia) 2-1 (3/6, 6/4, 7/5).

Doubles: Mayooran Kubherne/Ashlin de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat  Mandi Al Ibrahim/Souhail Elfarouk (Saudi Arabia( 2-0- (6/4, 5/4rtd)
