International-level Sri Lankan para athlete Nuwan Indika secured a bronze medal yesterday at the 12th World Para Athletics Championship 2025, currently being held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, India, from September 25 to October 5.
Competing in the Men’s Long Jump (T44) event, Indika produced a leap of 6.46 metres, earning him the bronze medal. With this achievement, he became the first Sri Lankan athlete to win a medal at the ongoing championship, marking a proud milestone for the nation’s para sports.
Sri Lanka is represented at the tournament by a five-member team, consisting of four male athletes and one female athlete.
