DEC.12, (Mirror Sports) - Mora Racing, one of Sri Lanka’s rapidly rising motorsport teams, is accelerating its mission to build racing talent from karting all the way to international formula competition. Founded in 2023, the team - named “Mora” (shark) to reflect a bold local identity — has grown from a small two-stroke engine outfit into a structured racing program with national and international success.

A breakthrough 2024 season saw Mora Racing partner with GP Karts and make a strong impact in the IAME Series Sri Lanka. Drivers Kaveen Rajapaksha, Inuk Maddumarachchi, and Rahel Abeyratne led the charge, with Kaveen clinching the Junior Championship, marking a key early milestone.

Behind the team is Shafraz Junaid, Founder, Manager, and Technical Head, whose decades of rallying experience and CMSC involvement fuel Mora Racing’s philosophy of grassroots development. “Our aim is simple — bring new blood into motorsport and take Sri Lankan talent global,” he said.

In 2025, Mora Racing expanded into formula racing under the banner “One Team, One Journey.” Drivers Aadam Junaid and Kaveen Rajapaksha trained in India on Formula LGB machinery, prompting the team to purchase ten LGB cars and launch Sri Lanka’s first dedicated Formula Racing Academy at Katukurunda. The academy quickly delivered results, with strong showings at Mahagastota, Singletree, and the inaugural Katukurunda meet.

The team’s international breakthrough came at the JK Tyre Novice Formula Championship in Coimbatore. Aadam secured a stunning podium finish, while both drivers held their own in a competitive field of 26. In last weekend’s final round, Aadam finished 7th overall in the 2025 championship after recovering from first-race contact.

Mora Racing’s karting squad also expanded, welcoming Sorayah Wahab and fielding six drivers — including three girls under 16 — at the APMC Pacific Sports event.

Looking ahead, the team is preparing for the Kothmale Hill Climb and upcoming local formula events, with eight drivers already signed on. Three graduates from its karting academy will also step into formula racing for the first time, reinforcing the team’s core mission of building racers from the ground up.

More than trophies, Mora Racing aims to develop complete drivers — offering training for aspiring professionals, F1 hopefuls, and anyone seeking the thrill of high-performance racing
