Sri Lanka lose to Yemen in Asia Cup Qualifiers

Sri Lanka suffered their third successive defeat when they lost to Yemen 0-3 in their AFC Cup Under-23 Qualifying Round Group One match played in Doha, Qatar yesterday.

The Lankans, who had earlier lost to Syria (0-5) and Qatar (0-5) respectively, put up another dismal performance as they went from bad to worse conceding as many as 13 goals to their opponents.

Yemen opened the scoring in the 30th minute and went on to dominate the second half while netting two more goals (60th and 68th sec) and complete a resounding victory. Meanwhile, Qatar qualified to play in the AFC Cup final round after they finished on top of Group ‘A’ with their last league match of the tournament against Syria ending in a 1-1 draw yesterday.
