Sri Lanka awarded two points after North Korea gives walk over

Sri Lanka has been awarded two points after North Korea decided to withdraw from the 2022 FIFA World Cup preliminary round two (Asian zone) qualification match, according to Football Sri Lanka (FSL) Secretary Jaswar Umar. 


According to the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) schedule, Sri Lanka were to play North Korea on June 3, followed by Lebanon and South Korea on June 5 and 9 in their Group H fixtures. 
Since North Korean football authorities decided to withdraw their team because of the worsening Covid-19 situation, Lebanon and South Korea will also receive two points.


The second round matches which was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic will be held at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. 


The Sri Lanka squad led by Sujan Perera will leave for South Korea tonight (31). A 22-member squad accompanied by 11 officials has been named for the tour with Kavindu Ishan and Waseem Razeek acting as vice-captains.
