The Wrestling Federation of Sri Lanka (WFSL) has selected a six-member men’s and women’s team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Wrestling competition. Wrestling at the Birmingham Games in England will take place on August 5-6.

Meanwhile, three wrestlers bound for the Commonwealth Games and a coach will undergo a specialist training camp in Hungary from April 15, organised by the Hungarian Wrestling Federation.

On a recommendation made by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL), the three wrestlers will train in Hungary until July 31 before going to Birmingham on August 1, WFSL president Sarath Hewawitharana said.

Meanwhile, three wrestlers who were chosen for the Commonwealth Games but lost the final selection trials held on April 7 in Pallekele, Kandy, have been replaced with three new faces by the WFSL.

The three wrestlers who will be representing Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games and going to the Hungarian camp are Navy’s S.P.S. Niroshani (50kg), Sangarathana MV’s Nethmi Ahinsa Fernando (57kg) and Chamodya Keshani (54kg), with Suranga Kumara as the coach.
