Half tons by late order pair Nisala Tharaka and Dilum Sudeera helped Galle make a formidable 435 against Colombo on day two of the four day National Super League cricket tournament encounter played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium.
Galle resuming from their overnight 365 for seven lost Ramesh Mendis early, adding only another 16 runs being dismissed for 72. Thereafter, Nisala who made 76 and Dilum who remained unbeaten on 66, frustrated the Colombo bowlers as the pair put on 114 runs for the ninth wicket to bolster the Galle total.
Colombo in their turn were 85 for one when bad light stopped play.
In the other match played at the Pallekele Stadium, Jaffna was rescued by skipper Janith Liyanage and Niroshan Dickwella after they lost two quick wickets that of Ravindu Rasantha and Angelo Mathews, the overnight pair for the addition of 32 runs.
Mathews was the first to go, being able to add only one run having shared 137 runs for the third wicket with Rasindu who followed next, being dismissed for 120. Skipper Liyanage who made 79 and Dickwella (70) rescued the side with the pair associating in 126-run stand for the fifth wicket. But the separation of the pair saw Jaffna losing their remaining five wickets for the addition of 58 runs being bowled out for 418. Dambulla in their turn, ended the day on 54 for one off ten overs when bad light stopped play.
