Retired Sri Lanka cricket captain Angelo Matthews will make his debut in the ICC TV commentary panel at the T20 World Cup that starts today.
Matthews retired from international cricket last year after playing his last Test that was against Bangladesh at the Galle International Cricket Stadium and his entry into the commentary box brings in added expertise for viewers.
“Cricket is woven into the very fabric of both India and Sri Lanka and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup - full of skill, flair and opportunity - captures everything we Sri Lankans love about the game. I cannot wait to share our nation’s cricketing spirit with fans from all over the world,” said Matthews.
Along with Matthews in the commentary box will be South Africa’s 2025 World Test Championship winning captain Temba Bavuma also making his debut behind the mike.
According to the ICC, Ravi Shastri, Nasser Hussain, Ian Smith and Ian Bishop will headline what they call a “dynamic commentary team” that includes retired Pakistan bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis among others.
