HNB, Browns, NTB dominate Mercantile hockey Knockouts

Hatton National Bank (HNB) emerged champions of the 73rd Mercantile Hockey Knockout Tournament organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association, with a commanding 5-2 victory over Sampath Bank in the A Division final at the Astro Turf, Colombo.

Browns Group edged out Hayleys 2-1 in a closely contested B Division final.  Hayleys took the lead in the second quarter, but Browns player Pathum Prabodha turned the tide with an equaliser in the third quarter and followed it up with the winning goal in the final quarter.

Nations Trust Bank claimed a dominant 3-0 win over HNB (B) team in the C Division final, sealing the title in style without conceding a single goal. 

With the successful conclusion of its second tournament for 2025, the Mercantile Hockey Association has extended an open invitation to all corporate teams to take part in the upcoming 9-a-side tournament scheduled later this year. (BM)
