Host nation Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling five-set encounter, securing a 3–2 victory in the Central Asia Nations Cup Men’s Volleyball Tournament 2025 held yesterday.
The tournament, organised by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), is being conducted under a round-robin format with the participation of six countries. The competition is currently taking place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and will continue until October 28.
This marks Sri Lanka’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, following their earlier loss to Turkmenistan. So far, Sri Lanka’s only victory has come against Afghanistan.
In the closely contested match against Bangladesh, the hosts won the first two sets 25/20 and 25/21. Sri Lanka bounced back strongly to win the third and fourth sets 25/15 and 25/22, levelling the match at two sets all. However, in the decisive fifth set, both teams fought point for point until Bangladesh ultimately prevailed 15/11 to claim victory.
Sri Lanka will next face the Maldives tomorrow (26), followed by a match against Nepal (27), as part of the preliminary round of the tournament.
