The 2026 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division One men’s basketball tournament has reached its climax, with the Final Four set to take place this weekend at the Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, USA.
The race for the national title has narrowed from 68 colleges to four after weeks of thrilling and grueling competition.
The two semifinals will be played on April 5, with the winners advancing to the championship game on April 7.
The four teams which will be competing in the Final Four are Arizona Wildcats, Michigan Wolverines, Connecticut Huskies and Illinois Fighting Illini. The first semifinal will feature the West Regional Champions Arizona and Midwest Regional Champions Michigan while East Regional Champions UConn will take on South Regional Champions Illinois in the second semifinal.
With defending champions Florida Gators knocked out in the second round, this year’s tournament is guaranteed to produce a new national champion. Among this year’s semifinalists, UConn remains the most successful team, having won the championship six times in 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023 and 2024, while Arizona and Michigan last tasted championship success in 1997 and 1989 respectively. In contrast, Illinois is still in search of a championship, making their first Final Four appearance since finishing runners-up in 2005.
However, UCLA Bruins leads the tournament historically with 11 national championships, with Kentucky Wildcats trailing behind at eight.
