Opener Janaka Silva was the hero of St. Sebastian’s in the 39th Battle of the Golds limited-over win by 20 runs against traditional rivals Prince of Wales played at the P Sara Stadium yesterday.
The win also saw the Sebs complete a double after winning the two-day encounter played at De Zoysa Stadium the previous day.
Janaka cracked 65, which had ten boundaries, and was involved in two valuable partnerships, with the first an opening wicket stand of 54 with Ryan Dissanayake and the other of 84 runs for the second wicket with Vimath Dinsara.
Later, Tharindu Dilanka and Adeesh Almeida shared another valuable stand of 64 runs for the fourth wicket, which helped the Sebs taking first lease of the wicket to make a formidable score of 265 runs.

Prince of Wales, in their run chase, despite a knock of 57 by Rivith Jayasooriya, who shared an opening wicket stand of 98 runs with Rusanda Silva, was restricted to a score of 245 runs, paving the way for St Sebastian’s to chalk up their 17th win of the series to the 12 by Prince of Wales.
