Sri Lanka secured third place at the 13th Asian Youth Netball Championship, which concluded yesterday in South Korea.
In the playoff match, Sri Lanka defeated Hong Kong 51–43, successfully retaining third place in the tournament for the third consecutive time.
In the two most recent tournaments (2019 and 2023), Sri Lanka also finished in third place. However, Sri Lanka has previously won the Asian Youth Championship title on three occasions — in 1998, 2002, and 2015.
In yesterday’s match against Hong Kong, Sri Lanka won the first two quarters (17–9 and 13–11) but lost the third and fourth quarters (11–12 and 10–11). The Hong Kong players impressed with their outstanding playing style during the match.
The tournament, featuring 11 countries from the Asian region, was held from June 27 to July 4.
Meanwhile, in the final Singapore defeated Malaysia 49–29 to claim the 2025 Asian Youth Netball Championship title, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
This is the third time Singapore has won the Asian Youth Netball Championship, having previously clinched the title in 1994 and 2017.
Notably, Malaysia — the team that holds the record for the most titles in the tournament’s history, having won seven times — had to settle for the runner-up position this time.
