The Rotaract Club of Colombo has successfully completed a series of charitable initiatives under their "Charity Bus Project," which aimed to support various communities and enhance the lives of those in need. One of the standout projects, Charity Bus Project 1, saw the donation of a high-pressure washer to the Attidiya Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. This contribution supports the centre’s ongoing efforts in rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife by improving the cleanliness and maintenance of its facilities, ensuring a safer environment for the animals in care.
In another significant project, Charity Bus Project 2, the club donated a PureIT water filter to the Diri Daru Piyasa Children’s Home, providing the children with access to clean and safe drinking water. This donation is a vital step toward improving the health and well-being of the children, ensuring they have access to this essential resource. The club also completed Charity Bus Project 3, supporting the Sujatha Elders Home in Panadura with donations of adult diapers, cleaning supplies, and milk powder to improve the daily care and comfort of elderly residents.
The club’s impact on education and local infrastructure was evident in Charity Bus Project 4, where they transformed the Thebuwana Maha Vidyalaya in Kalutara by giving the school a vibrant makeover, with generous paint donations from Multilak Paints. This revitalization aims to foster an inspiring environment for students. Similarly, Charity Bus Project 10 saw the donation of educational books to St. John’s College in Kalutara, enhancing the school’s library and supporting the academic growth of its students.
Charity Bus Projects 7, 8, and 9 have made significant contributions to local communities. Project 7 empowered women in Bandarawela by donating cooking equipment to the Foundation of Goodness, helping them enhance their culinary skills and start small businesses for financial independence. Project 8 supported the Baranasuriya Boys Home in Hikkaduwa by donating national attire, giving the boys a sense of pride and inclusion during cultural events. Lastly, Project 9 improved patient care at Kalutara Teaching Hospital by donating high-quality bed linen, ensuring a cleaner and more comfortable environment for recovering patients. These initiatives highlight the club's ongoing commitment to community welfare and empowerment.
Through these projects and others, such as providing dental care at Beruwala Base Hospital (Project 5) and planting trees to combat coastal erosion at Hikkaduwa Beach (Project 6), the Rotaract Club of Colombo has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to community service, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. Their efforts continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of many, ensuring the well-being of vulnerable populations while promoting a better future for all. The Rotaract Club of Colombo’s ongoing work highlights the power of collective action and community collaboration
