Deshamanya Prof. Mohan Munasinghe receives national honour in Portugal

Prof. Munasinghe warmly congratulated by His Excellency Minister Carlos Abreu Amorim after receiving Medal of Honour and honorary citizenship certificate, on 24 June (officially commemorating First Day of Portugal) in the historic city of Guimaraes, also the European Green Capital 2026.

Prof. Mohan Munasinghe received the Medal of Honour for Exceptional Contributions to World Sustainability and Peace, and honorary citizenship from Senior Minister His Excellency Carlos Abreu Amorim, on 24 June – officially called First Day of Portugal that commemorates independence from Spain in 1128. The photo shows the Hon. Minister congratulating Prof. Munasinghe after conferring this medal and status of honorary citizenship in the historic city of Guimaraes. The honour recognizes his major contribution as Chief Advisor to Guimaraes for 12 years, that helped the city win the prestigious European Green Capital award for 2026.

Professor Munasinghe is Chairman of the MIND Group in Colombo, which includes the non-profit Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND), a UN recognized centre of excellence on sustainable development, and MIND AM focusing on data analytics and management. He is Chairman of the Board of Climate & Conservation Consortium (CCC). He is also Board Director of Eureka Group, Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking Univ., China, and Chairman of the Presidential Expert Committee on Sustainable Sri Lanka 2030 Vision.
