Every year, Rotaract Week is celebrated with enthusiasm and purpose by Rotaract Clubs worldwide. The celebration, which typically takes place in the second week of March, marks the anniversary of the first Rotaract Club established on 13th March 1968 in North Carolina, USA.Since its inception, Rotaract has grown exponentially, with clubs in over 180 countries, uniting young leaders in service, fellowship, and professional development.
Rotaract in RID 3220, which represents Sri Lanka and Maldives, has played a vital role in this global movement. Its inception dates back to 9th September 1969 with the inception of the Rotaract Club of Colombo. Since then, Rotaract in RID 3220 has made remarkable strides in nurturing young leaders who contribute to community service and personal growth. With a robust network of clubs across the island, Rotaract in RID 3220 has set benchmarks for impactful initiatives and meaningful collaborations. The district has been recognised for having the highest average member count per Rotaract Club globally and is the second-largest district in the world in terms of membership for the RI Year 2024-25.
Rotaract, a member of Rotary International, empowers individuals aged 18-30 to bring positive change to their communities while enhancing their leadership skills. The organisation thrives on its four areas of service: Professional Development, Community Service, International Service, and Club Service. This year’s Rotary International theme, ‘Magic of Rotary’, is a fitting reminder of the transformative influence Rotary and Rotaract have on communities around the world.
Over the past few years, Rotaract in RID 3220 has conducted a variety of sustainable projects that have stood the test of time. Initiatives such as ‘Yaluwa’ and ‘TogetherSL’ aim to empower marginalised communities while giving back to society. Meanwhile, projects like ‘Rotaract Champions League’ and Fellowship Visits focus on improving fellowship among the youth of Sri Lanka, encouraging active participation in the movement. While celebrating our past, let us remember that the Rotaract Week is more than just an occasion to reflect on past achievements; it is a time to ignite new ideas, inspire action, and continue the legacy of ‘Service Above Self’!
