Calcey moves into Trace Expert City

Calcey Technologies, an innovative software product engineering firm based in San Francisco, California and Sri Lanka, moved its Colombobased innovation centre into the modern office premises at Trace Expert City.

The move in was graced by Defence Ministry Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Urban Development Authority (UDA) Chairman Nimal Perera, dignitaries from t he Sri Lankan Army, UDA and the management of Calcey Technologies and its employees.

Calcey Technologies became the second software company to enter the Expert City, which is developed under the guidance of the Defence Ministry, UDA and the Sri Lankan Army, while being supervised by Trace. The new Calcey office premises present a chic-work environment with industrial interior.

Embracing both its origin—a 100-year-old historical warehouse—and modern architecture, the new premises have been renovated and refurbished t o create a chic workplace that includes ample space, with open brick architecture, giving a totally new industrial ambience to the trade centre earlier used by the British.

Speaking about the launch of its new office premises, Calcey founder and CEO Mangala Karunaratne, who has returned to Sri Lanka from the US, said, “Founded in 2002 with three employees, we have grown to an 80 plus member enterprise innovating in software product engineering.

It is in this milieu that I am happy to state that 5000 plus Fortune 500 employees are using our apps daily and six active Fortune 500 enterprise mobile apps have been developed by our team in Sri Lanka. As a boutique product engineering company, we are happy to move into Trace Expert City, which will further sync with our growth strategy.”

He further added, “We are targeting t o expand our markets within the US, UK and Australian regions and our focus is to complete deployment of an innovative location-based marketing solution and a facial recognition solution within the next fiscal year, further strengthening our product portfolio.”

The company specializes in a gamut of professional services including: enterprise mobile solutions, agile product engineering services, web and cloud services and software quality assurance and offers solutions in the USA, Australia and UK geographies.

Calcey provides service in key verticals, i ncluding: healthcare, software, consumer, advertising, investment, media telecommunications, energy, finance, retail and fashion. Calcey’s notable clientele include Stanford Business School, CISCO Australia, Westfield Retails, Wikimedia and over 21 more exclusive patrons.

The company is also involved with the country’s academia and has formed several working partnerships with a number of universities in the island including, University of Moratuwa, SLIIT and APIIT. Through its sustainability arm, Calcey hosted Sri Lanka’s first CoderDojo—a global collaboration of computer programmers to facilitate free and open learning to aspiring young people. CoderDojo training is usually focused on learning programming languages and the Calcey team volunteers to help the future techno talent.
