The tenth Executive President of Sri Lanka will emerge from UNP before long, UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardenea said yesterday.
“Many think that the UNP is weak because it commands only one seat in Parliament. The party was left with a solitary seat in the House in 2020 as well. However the party was powerful. UNP is still powerful. The tenth Executive President of Sri Lanka will emerge from UNP before long,” Abeywarena told a ceremony at party headquarters Sirikotha to hand over appointment letters to its new organizers
“Sri Lanka is expected to fall into a difficult situation by December this year,” he also said.
“The present government talks on a 77 year course. However the respective governments which ruled the nation for the last 77 years managed to keep prices of essential goods stable. A packet of salt is Rs 280, a coconut costs Rs 290 today. However the price of these goods was never high during the past 77 years,” he said.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe who spoke for only a few minutes said the performance of the UNP will be known by the end of the year.
It was also reported that former MP and an organiser in Kalutara District Lakshman Wijemanne was not happy to see the presence of former MP Rajitha Senaratne at the ceremony. However the matter was settled by Mr. Wickremesinghe who intervened and managed to calm things down.
