The Ceylon Teachers’ Union said the principal of a leading girls’ school in Kandy is facing allegations of human right violations and that the Kandy Human Rights Commission has received nine complaints against her over the last nine months. General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said the HRC has already initiated investigations. He told the media that 84 teachers on the staff and the parents of students have complained against the principal’s arbitarary activities that led to human right violations. He said the teachers and the parents had complained to the HRC as their last resort due to the long delay of the Department of Education in holding investigations. The trade Union leader further said this sad state of affairs in the school had affected the students’ academic activities.
