Former Minister of Labour and Public Relations Mervyn Silva, has been indicted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for unlawfully amassing assets and funds exceeding Rs. 153 million during his time in office.
The Bribery Commission alleges that Silva illegally acquired a plot of land valued at Rs. 70 million in the upscale Colombo 7 area, a property worth over Rs. 30 million in Dalupitiya, Kadawatha, and purchased a luxury jeep for his son, Malaka Silva.
The indictments, filed under Section 23(1)(a) of the Bribery Act, include three major charges related to the accumulation of unexplained wealth through illicit means. CIABOC maintains that the assets were not consistent with Silva’s known sources of income during his ministerial tenure.
