Matron arrested for inflicting cruelties

The matron of a hostel for children with special needs who inflicted cruelties on aurally handicapped children in the hostel was arrested by Anuradhapura police .  

Police had arrested her during investigations of a complaint received by the Women and Children’s Bureau.The parents had complained that seven children between 19 and 15years of age had been beaten with clubs and sticks.   

They had recently staged a protest demanding immediate dismissal of the matron. HQI Anuradhapura Police R.M.Jayaweeera said the victims were referred to JMO Anuradhapura hospital for medical examination.The suspect woman was to be produced in court yesterday.
