LG elections EC sets ultimatum to submit names for the seats from proportional list

The Election Commission has set an ultimatum for political parties to submit the names of candidates, including female candidates, to be appointed from the proportional list they submitted for the local government elections held on May 6. 

Accordingly, the political parties must send the list by midnight on May 30, 2025.   

In a statement, the Commission highlighted that despite the conclusion of the Local Government Elections, more than three weeks ago, several parties and independent groups have failed to submit the complete list of nominees for appointment to their respective councils.   

With the new term for local government institutions set to begin on June 2, 2025, the EC emphasized that any further delay could disrupt the administrative functioning of these bodies.   

As such, the Commission reiterated that all concerned entities must comply with the deadline without exception.
