In a writ petition before the Court of Appeal, Salindu Malshika Gunaratne, alias “Kudu Salindu,” has sought an order preventing the issuance of red notices against him through Interpol.
When the petition was taken up before the Court of Appeal (Acting President) Justice Mohammed Laffar and Justice K. Priyantha Fernando, the matter was fixed for support on July 3.
Additional Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne, appearing for the Attorney General, challenged the maintainability of the writ petition.
The Additional Solicitor General stated that the petitioner had been arrested in Madagascar in 2023, brought back to Sri Lanka, and subsequently detained for investigation.
He further informed the court that the suspect had reportedly fled the country after being released, and argued that such a request could not be made by someone who had previously absconded.
Counsel for the petitioner submitted that his client had been detained for a year following his arrest, including approximately seven months in remand custody.
He added that the High Court judge later granted bail to his client after the State Counsel informed the court that there was no direct evidence against him.
The petitioner’s counsel also stated that his client had received serious threats from various individuals demanding money, which compelled him to leave the country out of fear for his life.
