HC sentences man to death for heroin trafficking

Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuwida, yesterday sentenced an accused to death after convicting him on two charges of possession of 16 grams and 882 milligrams of heroin and trafficking the substance.
The death sentence was imposed after concluding that the prosecution had proven both charges beyond reasonable doubt. Convict Welivita Sayakkarage Asanka Sanjeewa, was arrested by the Organized Crimes Prevention Division on February 26, 2019 in the Grandpass area while in possession of heroin.
