The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint a Ministerial committee to submit a report on the sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom on four Sri Lankans including three military personnel, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.

He told the weekly briefing to announce cabinet decisions that the committee is expected to submit a report with recommendations to the Cabinet regrading the matter.

He said the Committee will comprise Foreign, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, Justice and National Integrity Minister Harshana Nanayakkara and Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara.

The Minister said the committee will submit a report with recommendations to the Cabinet of Ministers on further measures to be taken after studying the facts with regard and to empower the committee to obtain the services of any officer/intellect deemed to have subject expertise in the relevant field and considered essential.

“It was unilateral action by the UK.The committee will look into matters instrumental in imposing sanctions and recommend further action regarding it,” he said.

Responding to a question whether the committee will look into sanctions imposed on military personnel in the past, he said the committee will only look into the recently imposed sanctions on four individuals.
