One independent group, and the National People’s Party, which secured seats in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) at the recently concluded local government election, said yesterday they have not made a final decision on whom they will support.

These remarks came despite claims by the National People’s Power (NPP) that it would form the administration with the support of independent groups.

The National People’s Party, which won one seat in the CMC, said it has not yet decided on a course of action. “We have not decided as to whom we will support yet. However, we will do what is best for the country and for the people of Colombo,” National People’s Party Leader Srinath Perera told the Daily Mirror.“We will decide whom we should confer with in the coming days,” he added.

Independent Group 5, backed by MP Ravi Karunanayake, contested under the bat symbol and secured two seats. Mr. Karunanayake, when contacted by the Daily Mirror, said the group is more likely to support an opposition collective rather than the ruling NPP.
