Don’t give your surname to someone else’s baby - former Ministers

Claiming that the anti-corruption drive of the present government is one which was introduced by the previous regime, two former ministers yesterday said the present government should not give its surname to someone else’s baby, former Ministers Rajitha Senaratne and Bandula Gunawardene said yesterday.
Speaking during a media briefing, the two former ministers said almost all legislations pertaining to anti-corruption laws and good governance were ones which were introduced by the former government.
Mr. Gunwardene said he has already launched a book on the steps taken by the previous regime to stabilize the economy and to introduce new anti-corruption laws. “I have done that to provide correct information to the public,” he said.
“We will support the government if it acts honestly to ensure economic stability and if it brings in effective laws to prevent corruption. We also want to inform the government that it should not delay in bringing in other laws which prevent corruption We cannot delay anti-corruption laws any further as per the agreement which the government has reached with the IMF. Sri Lanka will lose the fifth IMF tranche if anti-corruption laws are further delayed,” he said. Dr. Senaratne said most of the new laws that are lined up for approval by Parliament are once which are included in the national Anti-Corruption agenda of the previous government. “The new Anti-corruption Bill, Proceeds from crimes Bill are among the national anti-corruption agenda introduced by the previous government,” he sai
