Badulla voters urged to cast ballots early due to bad weather

Badulla District Secretary and Returning Officer Panduka  Sri Prabhath Abeywardene requested the voters to call over at the  polling stations early and cast their vote in view of the inclement  weather experienced at present in the district.  

He warned of the possibility of road obstructions caused  by falling trees and mounds of earth due to the heavy rain in the  afternoon.   

The District Secretary said the Department of Meteorology  has reported that the prevailing inclement weather would persist till  May 13.   

Meanwhile,Ella- Wellawaya, Colombo – Badulla and Haputale-  Beragala main highways are affected by a thick mist, obstructing traffic.  Police said the mist prevailed during heavy rain in the evening and  morning, and that it shrouded the road preventing a clear view.   

The police pointed out that Badulla- Passara, Haliela-  Nuwara Eliya, Passara,- Namunukula, Madolsima- Passara, Badulla-  Bandarawela, and Welimada- Bandarawela roads are affected by the mist  and endangered by mounds of earth and falling trees.  

 Police requested the drivers to be cautious when passing  through the affected areas of the mist and possible obstructions caused  by falling trees and mounds of earth.
