Prime Minister inspects flood damage to Uni. Of Peradeniya

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarsuriya had an  in-depth discussion with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya  Prof. Terrance Mudajith about the situation at University.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the extent of damage caused by the overflowing of the Mahaweli river due to Cyclone Ditwah.
The meeting focused on   developing a comprehensive  restoration strategy with structured short term, medium and long term priorities. 

Under the short term programme,  emphasis is to be placed on the rapid opening  of those faculties that were not directly affected by the floods.

The Vice Chancellor detailed an account of flood damage  to the University buildings and property, which includes the Faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, the Computer Centre which was   extensively  damaged, CDEC, the Gymnasium and the Sarasavi Medura Hostel. He described how the  cleaning up was being carried out.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Nalaka Kaluwewa,  Member of Parliament for  Kandy Thanura Dissanayake,  Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof.  Ranjith Pallegama, Directors of Post Graduate Institutes, the Acting Registrar and Student represenstatives.
