The newly established sperm bank at Castle Street Hospital for Women in Colombo has already assisted six women, offering new hope to those struggling with infertility.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Hospital Director Dr. Ajith Kumara Danthanarayana said this is a major step forward in helping infertile couples and individuals in Sri Lanka.
“The sperm bank, which opened recently, has already attracted over 50 men who have registered as sperm donors. There are approximately 200 women who can now find hope with this initiative,” he stated.
“The main goal of this sperm bank is to help parents who are struggling with infertility to have children. Fathers who wish to donate sperm must go through several medical tests,” Dr. Danthanarayana explained.
Further, the director said the hospital receives continuous phone inquiries daily about sperm donation. “We provide the necessary information to those who are interested,” the director added.
