General Silva and newly appointed Pakistan Defence Advisor discuss defence relations

The Defence Advisor who was appointed recently at the High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Colonel Muhammad Farooq paid a customary call on Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva at his office yesterday.   


Commencing the cordial dialogue, the CDS reminded the long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations. Further, he thanked Pakistan for the continued support and cooperation extended to the Sri Lankan Defence Forces over the years, particularly the Tailor-made courses offered in the 1980s for the capacity building of the officer cadre of the Sri Lanka Army. With the continuation of the dialogue, later General Shavendra Silva reminded him of the responsibilities of a Defence Advisor and encouraged him to further strengthen the defence relations with Sri Lanka. The CDS assured the highest cooperation from the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to discharge his duties in his new appointment for the betterment of the defence forces of both countries.
