While stating Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested $6 billion to provide essentials and a further one billion dollars to stabilize the rupee from the IMF, UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardene yesterday said a positive response from the donor agency is likely.

Abeywardene a close associate of  the PM told journalists yesterday that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. “ There could be a positive outcome if the Prime Minister is ably supported by those who want to see the country through the present crisis,” Abeywardene said.    “ A national consensus on IMF assistance and a debt restructuring programme agreed upon by all parties is the only way forward for Sri Lanka at the moment. However Mr. Wickremesinghe is ready to give the opportunity implement other alternative programme to any one who has such an alternative,” he added.
