A hill country leopard trapped in a house at Mount Vernon estate in Pathana at Thalawakele was safely captured with great difficulty and taken to the Randenigala Veterinary Medical Unit by wildlife conservators from Hakgala wildlife office.

Wildlife officers under Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Akalanka Pinidiya had taken more than five hours and captured the leopard unhurt.

They said the leopard while stalking a dog had entered the house at night and lost its way.

It was a well grown creature of about one year of age and four feet long. Officers from the Dimbula police were deployed to provide protection to the house and the people living in the environs until the leopard was captured and taken away.
