Newly appointed Governor for the Eastern Province Senthil Thondaman said he received complaints about Cannabis or Ganja being cultivated in the lands coming under the purview of various state institutions, and he would take heads of these bodies to task if proven guilty.

In a brief interview with Daily Mirror, the governor said there is no use of punishing only the cultivators. However, he declined to name the state institutions responsible in this instance.

“I received complaints that Ganja is cultivated in state lands in the Eastern Province. I will look into these complaints. Afterwards, the heads of state institutions concerned will be dealt with,” he said.

Commenting on his appointment as the Eastern Governor, he said President Ranil Wickremesinghe chose him.  “I do not know. You have to ask the President as to why I was appointed,” he said.
