The Gampaha Hospital authorities had got confused with the details of a dead baby and assigned the body to different parents who disclaimed, the police said.
The police said the parent disclaimed the body of the baby after examining it at the hospital morgue.

As a result, the hospital authorities had got confused with the details of a baby delivered through a Caesarean procedure at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital and transferred to the Gampaha Hospital for treatment at the premature baby care unit. Later, the baby had died, but the body had been assigned mistakenly to different parents who disclaimed it.

Gampaha Acting Magistrate Mahesh Herath arrived at the morgue to examine the body of the baby.

The parents said it was not the baby they got at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

The police said a DNA test would be conducted to know the actual patents of the baby as ordered by the Magistrate.
