GMOA to present new measures to contain the Omicron spread

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) is to hand over a 12-member expert committee technical report to the President, stressing the measures to be taken to contain the Omicron spread and possible new variants that may emerge in the future.

The report has been compiled by health experts, including clinical specialists, community health specialists, epidemiologists, virologists, etc.   


The report titled “Facing Omicron and Future New Variants of SARS-CoV-2 Virus” will also be presented to the Health Minister and the relevant health authorities.   
The report was compiled, taking into account the latest scientific data, WHO recommendations, data from the CDC and FDA in the United States, and the actions taken by various countries, including European countries, Singapore, Israel, and Australia, to combat the omicron variant. The GMOA said the report and its recommendations are designed to be put into practice in Sri Lanka.
