Accident at Dickoya One dead and 16 seriously injured

One died and 16 others were seriously injured when a bus transporting workers of a private sector institution veered off the road and fell into a precipice more than 75ft deep at Batergalawatta on the Hatton – Salankanda road last morning. 

The deceased Sawarimuttu Fernando (62) was a resident of Fordise Estate in Dikoya and the father of three children. Investigations revealed that the driver had lost control of the bus due to excessive speed. He was among those injured. Police said several of the injured including the driver were in a critical condition.
