16 persons succumb to COVID-19 in 20 days with 150 cases

  • Active patients surpass 50 mark
  • Majority of the deceased were above 70 years

Sri Lanka has registered a total of 150 COVID-19 infections over the last 20 days with 16 fatalities related to coronavirus, according to the Epidemiology Unit.  


The health authorities said a majority of the deceased were above 70 years and some were vaccinated while some were not. Further, all the 16 victims had been suffering from chronic diseases.  The maximum number of deaths as three was recorded on May 7 while the highest single day cases as 13 were reported May 6 and 16.   

Besides, the average of the cases reported over the last 20 years is eight.  


As per the latest situation report issued by the Epidemiology Unit, the tally of the confirmed cases stands at 672,317 as of yesterday while total deaths are at 16,856.  


Meanwhile, Sri Lanka logged 13 fresh positive cases on Tuesday (16) pushing the active cases to 59.
